Changes
August 30th, 2008The biggest change is the long-threatened new website. There are still many “bugs” to work out but over time it will hopefully become more interesting and informative, easier to navigate through and, overall, become the definitive billiards website filling the needs of our association’s members and attracting new members from throughout our region. As you look through the website, feel free to come back here and make comments or suggestions.
Everything from the “old” website is or will be here on the new one. There are a couple of new things to check out. We have a Links page with information on how to get to pool and tournament related websites and a Calendar page with important dates and events listed. There is a news page which is for information only. If you’d like to see something on either one, send an email to us at either admin@westernbca.org or president@westernbca.org and it will be posted in the appropriate place. The blog and bulletin board are where you, the player, can communicate your opinion or look for housemates or team members at the next tournament.
Leagues are starting up or getting ready to start soon. The 11th Annual 9-Ball Championships are just around the corner. The main date to remember right now is September 22. This is the entry and qualifying deadline. Entries must be in the hands of your league operator by this date and you must have met the qualifying requirements by this date if you want to participate. See the 9-ball page for the specific requirements. Entry forms will be available next week and can be downloaded from the 9-ball page.
The tournament itself will be much the same as in the past with one notable exception. The entry fees for all events include a green fee (mini-tournaments and second chance tournaments will also have green fees but they will be collected at the time of entry). This means that the tables will be opened for play without the need to carry around a pocket full of tokens. This includes practice, too. Tables without scheduled matches can be used for practice as long as the tournament room is opened.
Don’t forget what is becoming a tradition at our tournaments - the Tuesday night Fun Night activities. The Diamond tables are expected to be up and ready to use by 3pm on Tuesday. Mini-tournaments and 10-ball ring games will begin as the brackets fill up. There will be plenty of tables to practice on.
That’s all for now. Check back from time to time and we look forward to your comments.
